The Super Vets enjoyed an excellent win against London League high flyers Spencer by 4 goals to nil in the sunny climbs of SW18 - a stone's through from leafy Wimbledon where the special one Tony Henman has travelled many times previously.
The changed formation allowed Oxford Hawks to have the added luxury of a substitute and were soon taking the game to Spencer with Rob Oldershaw, John Kauza and Gary Mahon dominating the midfield area. Gary soon had a goal chalked off for a foot but soon the Hawks took the lead after a good run by Chris Bilington found an unmarked Bear Smith who cleverly shot reversed stick into the bottom corner. The lead was soon doubled as Rob Oldershaw's cross shot alluded the Spencer keeper and just crossed the line.
There was a change in the second half with Spencer putting more players across the middle but despite having more possession never looked like troubling the defence of Biggs and Blomley with Jim Felix dealing ably with any shots in the Hawks goal. Hawks increased their lead with a fine team goal which ended with Steve Griffiths lifting the ball past the Spencer keeper. John Kauza somehow added a 4th to complete a great win.
Great hospitality by Spencer supplying a fantastic curry and their own bottled red wine!
