Oxford Hawks hosted Firebrands in the last game of the season. Inspired by their Ladies' 2s title-winning performance just prior, Hawks started strongly and dominated the game with some fantastic passing hockey. They peppered the area and won a number of short corners in the first half, but strong defending from the Bristol side kept them out. However Hawks opened the scored with Abi Flory slotting home from close range, after a strike from Becky Odlin came off the post. Hawks continued to pile on the pressure with fantastic ball movement. The second goal for Hawks came when Takara Haines drove strongly into the area, and passed to Becky Hibbert who finished well.
Hawks started the second half strongly keeping possession in the Firebrands half. Fantastic outletting from joint player of the match Kirsty Chapman found the forward line to give Charlotte Crampton-Smith (the other joint player of the match) a number of fast breaking opportunities. Crampton-Smith also cleverly dispossessed the opposition defence to score but it was disallowed. Hawks continued to push high and put pressure on Firebrands, but the away side did not roll over and reacted with some fast breaks of their own. Trojan-like defending from Chapman, Haines and Briony Hearn tried to hold them out but Firebrands managed to get a goal back. However Hawks reacted well to the pressure, scoring a 3rd goal with a deflection into the roof of the net by Odlin on the left post. At the death, Firebrands scored a second goal with a well struck short corner right on the final whistle, to make the score 3-2. This result ensured Hawks secured 3rd place in the league, their highest ever finish in the National League.
