Off we went to Bracknell HC for a trip down memory lane, well for me anyway, having not played there since my Maidenhead HC days in 1984, probably. This was put into perspective however by having Tim Webster in our team, who wasn’t born until 1998; fortunately we had Gary Mahon too, so that balanced things out a bit. This was a dogged performance by the Mens 4s, who made it eight wins in a row, and Bracknell put up a tough fight and had plenty of opportunities to get something out of the game - but Boggs was on good form. Fortunately, we had both James’s back in defence and after a while we controlled the play. It was our near-regular Gary Mahon that opened the scoring with a decidedly dodgy – from my perspective – drag flick cum scoop from the top of the D, but I would swear it was marginally outside the area. But apparently not. Plus the keeper touched it. Own goal? Bit harsh. Bracknell hit us regularly on the break with their youth and deservedly equalised, but as we took hold of the game, we looked more likely to score – Jasper having a couple of gilt edged chances, but it was Rob Manson who scored a great team goal to take lead, then he topped it off with a final minute short corner. Tim W showed how much he has progressed of late and was a very welcome addition. A 3-1 win then, but the highlight of the day had to be the choice of the three curries on offer, which got my vote for teas of the season. Nice to bump into some familiar old faces on the sidelines and all in all, a nice day out. The sun even shone and I got more than 20 minutes on the pitch. Marvellous.
