After a very successful campaign in the group stage of the u16 EH cup competition, Hawks girls travelled to Reading on Sunday to take part in the regional finals. Three games against Bath Buccaneers, Bournemouth and Reading stood between them and a place in the National Finals Weekend.
Some impressive hockey saw the girls beat Bath Buccs 4 – 0 in their first game and similarly dominate the second game against Bournemouth, with a 4 – 1 victory. Reading also had two wins going into the last game although it was Hawks who had the better goal difference. In a very high standard game, Reading went ahead but Hawks leveled just before half time. In the closely fought final 20 minutes of the day, it was Reading who managed to score twice and claim the spot in the National Finals. We wish them luck in Wakefield on 30th March.
It would be wrong to pick out any individuals from the day as every player contributed to a great performance and all players listed below should be congratulated for the way they have represented the club over the season – your attitude, commitment and not least your hockey have been fantastic. Thank you to Kara Kerr and Drew Blackburn for looking after the team, Jacqui Barlow for umpiring and all the parents for their much appreciated support.
