Men's 5's score 8 in home victory v OMT
01 March 2014, 15:30, Banbury Road North (Near)
Men's 5s 8 - 0 OMT Men's 4s
This was a strange game marked by all three Spittles playing together for the first time. After a school game earlier, Angus was welcomed back to the team he started with as a 13 year old, many moons ago, and his link work with Scraggy and Christian Van Engers was exceptional. It was quickly apparent that this was a strong Hawks team as they passed the ball around with intent. But whether the sun had caused everyone to enjoy themselves too much or what, it was the other Spittles in goal who kept Hawks in it against the youthful OMT attack.
Ultimately it was a Karl Hack 6 incher that got the score board started, and it was further goals from Ashley Robbins and Charles DArby that made it 3-0 at half time. But it really could have been disastrous had Archie not been in tip top form. The message was thus at half time, and the team started to play some Champagne hockey in the second half, with everyone playing a part, another good performance from Robbie Scragg saw him score (at last!) a great goal from the edge of the D, and he would have had another but for Rich Venables poaching one on the goal line! Shirley nearly scored too, so it must have been good! At the other end, Skipper Spittles was shown up a few times by the quick OMT forwards, but good defending from Kevin Clarke and Mike Image - and a triple save from the keeper, ensured a clean sheet.
Other goals scored by Rich Venables, Ashley Robbins and Charles (Persie) Darby
6 wins in the last 7 games, and a solid 4th place in the league is a good position to be in!
Man of the match voted by 12 out of the 15 squad players was, the keeper Archie Spittles!
