Ladies threes back on winning form

01 March 2014, 10:00, Banbury Road North (Top)

Ladies' 3s 4 - 0 Amersham & Chalfont Ladies 2s

There was no need to do introductions in the changing rooms today as the squad returned to a more familiar group, and that sense of team prevailed throughout the morning. Captain Kim may not have been well enough to play but her team talk beforehand, subbing and wise words at half term were all part of the success. Hawks started strongly, moving the ball more confidence and authority than  in recent weeks. There was excellent movement off the ball and communication between players, however despite dominating possession it took sometime before the Amersham and Chalfont keeper was beaten by Emily Black nipping in to finish a good team move.

It remained 1-0 at half time. Kim's suggestion of working the ball round a good keeper and leading higher paid off and the continued pressure resulted in a second team goal finished confidently again by Emily Black. With two goals on the scoresheet Hawks could relax and play the hockey they wanted. The defence and midfield worked tirelessly and almost faultlessly with great performances from Katie, Lottie, Caroline, Mel and Rachel. There was excellent passing play down the right, transfers round the back and through the middle with lots of people keen to score. It was 'mum' who scored next making a Black hat trick and Rachel was disappointed after her shot that hit the backboard was disallowed as the Goalkeeper had been obstructed. Rosie and Laura worked together seamlessly as inners and the rotating forward line showed energy and creativity to find more chances on goal. It was Rebecca Cannon who scored  in the final minute to make it four.

One-touch Evelyn didn't put a foot wrong and enjoyed the RAF low flying practice and buzzards in the sunshine and it was lovely to see the team back on form.

Man of the match votes were distributed across the team but it was Rosie as well as the sun who shone most today, and despite playing really well it was Saskia who was voted DOD as she left early to watch lacrosse! (the amazing bakewell tart this week may have also been a factor).
