Ladies' 5s beat Aylesbury easily
21 January 2012, 13:00, Banbury Road North (Top)
Ladies 5s 2 - 1 Aylesbury Ladies 3s
It was our first match back after what seems like a long Christmas break. Everyone was ready to go, although knowing this was likely to be a tough game! We started slightly slowly but the defence (Purdy, Lotty, Wendy, Becky, Laura and Mel) held strong and gave the mids and forwards come confidence to settle. With the forwards not seeing much of the ball for the first 10 minutess, our first goal did come slightly against the run of a play. A brilliant run down the line from Bella and a good cross, got a slight deflection off Buffy’s stick and found its way to Aoife. Aoife never looked like missing and she settled the nerve well. From then, it was very much back and forward. The mids (Louisa, Aoife, Gail and Emma) worked hard making runs and good passes. We got a string of short corners, a couple only just missing. Yet another short corner say the slip from Lotty to Louisa, who had the time to find the goal. Yet another debut game for another player with a goal!
Second half, Aylesbury came out hard, which was expected! They put lots of pressure on our goal, but Purdy was making many brilliant saves and was very much on form!! The defence and mid, yet again worked hard and cleared the ball well. We had a few breaks and put on good pressure. Buffy was one on one with keeper when an Aylesbury player through her stick. She got a yellow card and had 5 minutess off. Sadly we were unable to take advantage of the extra man. We had yet another string of short corners but Aylesbury were standing strong and defended brilliantly!! Final 10 minutes we were help in our defensive D, but the whole team worked hard and cleared the ball as far and as often as we could!
A very strong first game back since Christmas and hopefully more wins to follow!!
