Hawks Fledglings hang on to the win after early dominance
21 January 2012, 15:00, Banbury Road North (Near)
Fledglings 4 - 3 Oxford Men's 6s
Oxford Hawks Fledglings 4 Oxford 6ths 3
Following a long lay off and the loss of last weeks game to the icy conditions the Fledglings surprisingly started with cohesion and dominated the early exchanges. Freddie Webster and Adam Bentley combined well up front to provide early chances. A flowing move started by Foggy in the middle and good inter play with Bear Smith and Leo, saw Freddie Webster in space and he took his chance calmly. Within minutes the Bentley and Webster combination led to a shot from Adam head towards goal and Freddie made sure from close range.
The Midfield of Ollie Morris, Foggy and Leo had control and the defence rarely looked troubled. Hawks made it 3-0 following a short corner break down and Rob Oldershaw buries with a crisp finish.
Games can change on a heart beat and Oxford began to get back into the game when a lack of concentration in the Hawks defence led to the opposition player with the ball on his stick 10 yards from goal and he made no mistake.
2 excellent goals from Oxford with a reverse stick dutchman into the top left corner and a drag flick short corner required Bennett to use his calm experience for number 4. Hawks continued to create some daylight but the Oxford goal keeper was having an excellent game and Hawks were constantly under pressure as they hit on the break.
However the game finished with a nervous ending but 3 points in the bag for the 4:3 win.
