The classic game of two halves see Fledglings snatch victory
03 December 2011, 13:00, Banbury Road North (Top)
Fledglings 4 - 3 Marlow Men's 3s
FLEDGLINGS V MARLOW 3
This was the proverbial game of two halves.
The fledglings turned up with a maximum squad of 16 to do battle but quickly found themselves outplayed by an efficient Marlow team including several ex first teamers.
At half time fledglings were 3:0 down and staring down the barrel.
Bear Smith read the riot act at half time reminding his team mates that passing and scoring was the best way to win hockey matches. He also reminded his colleagues that a ball not to the end of his stick was a wasted ball.
Chastened by the half time team talk the Fledglings were a different side in the second half and put in a truly magnificent performance.
Ollie Morris scored a poachers hat-trick and Paul Dunleavy converted a penalty stroke after Bear had a short corner stopped on the line with a foot.
There were top performances from Ollie Morris, Ben Mitchell and James Mahon but the MOM went to Hugh Gordon for a great stint up and down the pitch.
