Hawks come off 2nd in a tough local derby

26 November 2011, 13:00, Oxford Brookes

Men's 2s 1 - 5 Oxford Men's 1s

Hawks started brightly in the local derby and had the lionshare of possession for the first 15 minutes. With a new formation and Craig and Kelly running the engine, it looked to bode well for the afternoon. However, 2 sloppy mistakes from the skipper led to Hawks being 2-0 down inside 20 mins. Again, the away team played some good hockey and created short corners, which were unable to convert.

Hawks managed to concede again and then pull one back through Tim Martin at the far post to make the scoreline 3-1 at half time. Still in it and playing well.

The second half started brightly and Hawks began to dominate, sadly to no avail. Going down to 10, then 9 did not help and Hawks conceded again. Hawks seemed to huff and puff but with no end result. The goal of the game to make it 5-1, some unbelievable individual skill, led to a scoreline that flattered the home side. They are the facts...we are not scoring enough and conceeding silly goals.

Still in the garage and ready to come out fighting next week at home to Wycombe.
