Ladies secure promotion to the National League!

19 March 2011, 11:30, St. Edward's School

Ladies 1s 7 - 1 Epsom Ladies' 1s

Oxford Hawks secured promotion to the National League for the first time in the club's history with a stunning performance against mid-table Epsom. Keen to avenge the 1-0 defeat earlier in the season, the girls started strongly and opened the scoring after ten minutes when Sandra Frankland drilled home a short corner. The girls extended their lead moments later when Becky Odlin squared the ball leaving Cita Haines a simple tap in. Frankland added another to make it 3-0 but then Epsom caused a few scares by pulling one back just before half time after a goalmouth scramble.

In the second half it was all one-way traffic as the girls put on a display to remember for the 100-strong crowd. After five minutes Frankland scored another, and then moments later Odlin scored the goal of the game; some beautiful simple passing hockey from Henri Coles in defence through Anna French in midfield and over to Frankland on the right. She drove down the wing, and crossed in for the diving Odlin to deflect the ball into the roof of the net. Man of the Match Frankland then scored her fourth with another straight strike from a corner and Odlin added one more to seal a superb win, and promotion to National League.

Oxford Hawks celebrate a fantastic victory
