Ladies continue their promotion push

12 February 2011

Ladies 1s 4 - 2 Woking Ladies' 1s

Oxford Hawks continued their winning form with a solid performance away to lowly Woking. They started strong, opening the scoring in the first 3 minutes through a slick short corner routine, finished by Ali Omell. However Woking came back strongly and suprised the Hawks defence creating a number of chances, one of which was converted after 15 minutes. The rest of the first half was scrappy, with Hawks not able to play their usual flowing hockey, being put under constant strong pressure by the home side.

However in the second half Hawks completely dominiated, with Sandra Frankland outstanding in midflied, skipping past her players on numerous occasion. The took the lead with a superb solo goal from Becky Odlin, who skillfully beat her player and smashed the ball home from the top of the area. They soon extended their lead to 3-1 as Odlin grabbed her second. Woking didn't give in though, and won a corner which they converted to potentially line up a tense last 5 minutes. However Kathryn Poulter ensured that didn't happen, as she slotted home from a tight angle to secure the win and an important 3 points as they continue their promotion drive.
