Congratulations to the management team of the Bennetts whose late surge has secured them first place and £40 in the 2009 Fantasy League!

Some big scores from Peter himself, Libby Leadbitter and Ian Sobey have resulted in Ian SobeyTeam Chutney scoring a huge 110 points this week, although Wendy Sobey’s ‘Black Bears’ were only 14 points behind with one of the biggest scores of the week, 137. Dave Hughes’ ‘GMH Eleven’ has jumped into 3rd place and £10 with 124 points this week pushing Jane Chilvers’ ‘The Team with No Name’ into 4th place, their lowest position since the first week of the competition! At the bottom, wooden spoon goes to Keith Taylor’s ‘The Cheapest Team’ which was thoroughly deserved! Biggest mover and scorer of the week was Giles Roper’s ‘The Three Hopes’ who have jumped 23 places to 29th with 153 points, with Steve Griffithsbig scores from Peter Bennett, Steve Griffiths and Jonathan Pratt. Lowest score of the week was 17 from Tom Coppin’s ‘Chad’s Chariots’ who have gradually been sliding down the table and finish in 91st spot.

On the player front Tony Silman has pipped Ted Bennett at the last! (Ted, don’t worry, you only win chocolate for winning the players’ league – and the £40 will buy you a lot of chocolate!) Remember the Fledglings game counted double last weekend (as well as the Mens 3s), so Tony’s brace in the 6-3 win ends up being worth 32 points. The Fledglings fantastic season is reflected in the fact that 7 of the top ten player spots are occupied by Fledglings! Biggest mover of the week is Steve Griffiths, whose brace and MOM award in the Falcons 6-1 win earned him 25 points.

So aside from cash prizes for the top three team managers, prizes are awarded as follows:

Highest points/price: Rob Dunnill – 63.5 points per pound
Most points: Tony Silman 214 points
Most points in a single game: Ted Bennett - 54 points

So that concludes the Fantasy League 2009! More stats will follow in subsequent newsletters, such as the “Dream Team” – what was the best possible ‘legal’ combination of players…were you in it?

Week 13

Please bear with us, but we have had to make some slight changes to the fixtures included in order for the Fantasy League to be concluded before the Dinner Dance next weekend. Since the Fledglings two rearranged games are now to be played after the end of the season, we have no choice but to make their fixture Double Pointsthis weekend against Boyne Hill count for DOUBLE POINTS. This ensures they still have the full complement of 13 fixtures.

The Mens 3s game this weekend will also count double, unless they are playing their rearranged game against Ashford this Sunday…..watch this space!

And finally the Harriers have had quite a few end-of season cancellations which means that the game against Wychwood on 7th March (a 2-1 win) will now count for double points.

If you don’t like it….well, my decision is final, so tough!! Heh heh heh….

So, with only one weekend left of matches to go, we have a CHANGE AT THE TOP! After a poor week for Jane Chilvers’ “The Team with no name”, only picking up 41 points, the Bennetts’ “Team Chutney” have sneaked ahead by 32 points! Jane mainly losing out as 5 Heather Millerof her players did not feature last weekend. Wendy Sobey’s “Black Bears” are now only 9 points behind Jane, and Dave Hughes’ “GMH Eleven” completes the top four, only 2 points behind Wendy. At the bottom end, Keith Taylor’s “Cheapest Team” sticks to form, only picking up 8 points, and in fact there is no change in positions for any of the bottom 8 sides.

On the player front, things are getting pretty close too, Tony Silman is now only 4 points behind Ted Bennett, but will the fact that the Flegdlings game this weekend counts double have a part to play? Biggest score of the week is 33 from Giles Roper with his four goals and MOM award for the Falcons, whilst the biggest mover is Heather Miller who has jumped 39 places after her goals and MOM award.

Look out for the final results next week!!!! Remember there are prizes to play for!

Week 12

Things are hotting up with not long left in the Fantasy League! Jane Chilvers’ “The Team with no name” are now only three points ahead of the Bennetts’ “Team Chutney”! But no change at the bottom, as Keith Taylor is now looking certain for the wooden spoon. Biggest score of the week was a huge 127 for Anna Clark’s “Clarky’s Champions”, mainly thanks to Polly Fitzgerald with her hat trick and MOM, and Phil Hargraves with hisPhil Hargraves MOM. Lowest score of the week was Rob Dunnill’s “Rob’s Hockey Academy” with a measly 21 points.

On the players front, there is also no change at the top, but Tony Silman is now just 7 points behind Ted Bennett. Biggest score and biggest riser was Polly with her 28 points, but it’s not quite enough to sneak onto the top ten scores of the season!

Week 11

This week the top three scores have come from the top three teams, with Jane Chilvers scoring 103, the Bennetts with 109, and Wendy Sobey jumping into 3rd with the week’s high score of 111. So it’s getting tight at the top, the Bennetts now only 21 points adrift of Jane. But all three teams contain the Peter-Ted Bennett combo!! At the wrong end, Keith Taylor’s cheapos got the week’s lowest score of 15 points. And he’s now 71 points away from second bottom, so if I had a house, I’d put in on the fact that he aint moving from the bottom. Biggest climber of the week is shared between the Hamilton-Martins and Giles Roper’s “The Three Hopes” Mandy and Justinwho have both jumped 11 spots. Lisa Jones goes the other way, with her “Teacher’s Pets” dropping 9 spots after a low scoring week.

On the individual front, Ted is still top, although only 19 points ahead of Tony Silman. However Peter Bennett has jumped from 10th to 3rd with a fantastic 5 goal haul in the Fledglings Simon Smithvictory. Other notable big scores were Simon Smith’s 4 goals giving him 29 points, and Charlotte Burrows 21 points in the Harriers 4-1 win. Biggest riser was Emily Munsey who has jumped 33 places to 83rd, after a MOM performance and penalty save in the Ladies 2s game.

So anything could change between now and the 28th March when the prizes are awarded!
