About the Club
Based in sunny north Oxford, we consider ourselves to be the premier hockey club in the county, with an unrivalled combination of playing standards and facilities. Founded in 1938 we have grown steadily over the years to the large and successful Club there is today. To find us see our directions page.
The Club was the site of the first astroturf pitch in the county back in 1990 and in our latest redevelopment we have expanded to two new surfaces, completed in May 2011 and to an exceptionally high standard. They were officially opened by Philip Kimberley (Non-Executive Chairman of the England Hockey Board) on a fabulous day attended by over 500 people.
Our Ladies’ section has 7 teams covering the widest range of standards, from the National League through to Trysports Three Counties Division 4.
Our Men’s section has 6 teams ranging from South League Division 2 through to MBBO Division 7. We also have 2 Men's veterans teams – the Senators for over 35s, and the Falcons for over 50s – both exceptionally successful and sociable at the same time.
Oxford Hawks is “Clubs First” accredited (the England Hockey Board’s recognition of a club providing a safe, effective and child friendly hockey environment). Youth development has a huge focus at Hawks, with a fantastic Junior Section containing over 450 members, playing and training on Sundays as well as the older juniors competing successfully in various competitions.
Hawks also has 3 Development sides (1 boys, 2 girls) who play in a local Saturday league, and are intended as valuable bridges between Junior and Adult hockey. These teams contain a mix of junior players and adults (maximum of 4 adults), and have proved to be hugely successful over the years, with many former players now featuring in the higher XIs in the club.
The Club is a very sociable place to be. There are many organised events throughout the year – BBQs, Quiz Nights, Christmas Parties, Wine Tasting (not your usual wine tasting!), End of Season Dinner Dance to name a few. Plus of course regular meet-ups in town on Saturday evenings. On a Saturday afternoon the clubhouse is always buzzing with people discussing their victories and defeats over team teas and a drink or few…
Also at Banbury Road North is North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club, with whom we share our clubhouse. Banbury Road North is also home to Adastral Hockey Club.
